![]() Salamander 2
In 1996, Konami obviously decided that the convoluted numerology of the Nemesis / Gradius games was not confusing enough so they released Salamander 2, which is by my reckoning the fifth game in the series.
Salamander 2 contains all the features that distinguished its parent from Nemesis. Namely, simple pick-up weaponry, two-player co-operative play and alternating horizontal and vertical scrolling levels. Also, they have kept the Gradius tradition of the default high score being set to 57300. Variants Apparently, the PlayStation version has a cheat of some kind which changes the title screen logo to 'Lifeforce 2'. Whether this is a true variant or not is not known to me. Emulation After a considerable amount of effort, MAME now supports Salamander 2. An accurate version is also available on the 'Salamander Deluxe Pack' for the PlayStation (which also features the first Salamander and the Japanese incarnation of Lifeforce). Sadly, Konami neglected to release this outside Japan. Level Guide (soon) See Also: |
