From: "Gary Pressler" Subject: TECH: Free Kick in Arkanoid 2 Date: Tuesday, April 25, 2000 10:49 AM This is just a follow-up to an earlier post by Mark Spaeth. Both of us had Free Kick boards we were trying to get to run in other spinner cabinets. Mark found that Free Kick does not have the pull-down resistors on-board like Arkanoid, Centipede, and other games with optical spinners. I was specifically trying to make an adapter to play Free Kick in an Arkanoid 2 cabinet. Both games are JAMMA, but the spinner inputs go to different pins. Even more annoying, the pins LEFT and RIGHT for Free Kick correspond to RIGHT and LEFT for Arkanoid 2. It is a very easy adapter to make. (I suggest Andy R. as a parts source) Cut pins 20, 21, X, and Y off the edge connector (JAMMA left & right, 1&2P). (check twice) Solder jumper wires 20->26, 21->25, X->d, Y->c and 3.3K resistors from each of pins 25, 26, c, and d to GND. TECH NOTE: Symptom of needing pull-down resistors: when the output of the spinner optics was measured with a voltmeter or scope, and the spinner is turned slowly, the spinner pulses to +5V but only droops down to about 2 or 3V instead of pulsing back down to 0. (The opposite indicates need of pull-ups.) G-
